Lady Lumps is a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign created as a senior capstone project. It is dedicated to my mom who passed from breast cancer in April 2024. This project is very close to my heart and to have any amount of positive impact, big or small, would be an acomplishment.
In 2019, my mom, Christine Kenney, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought through chemotherapy, radiation, and various medications.
In 2022, she had beaten cancer, and just when we thought it was behind us, it came back harder. It metastasised, and spread to her brain and liver. After nearly five years of fighting, my mom passed on April 7th, 2024.
After experiencing the toughest hurdle life has thrown at me, I've decided to use this as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Lady Lumps is here to educate women who have a history of breast cancer in their family, don’t have a history of breast cancer in their family, want to know more, want to be prepared, want to support, or just want a silly joke about touching boobies.
Laugh about them, name them, love them… and check them.
Hearing the diagnosis, Seeing the struggle, Experiencing the loss, and Feeling the fear as a young woman with, seemingly, a set of ticking time bombs strapped to her chest.
This Awareness campaign aims to take away some of the negative stigma around the topic of breast cancer and to educate women on what to look for and promote early detection.
It is a way of attracting attention through the "Fun" method of talking about boobs, slight sexualization and humor. The shape, size, name calling, the jiggle can all be used as an entry to a more serious topic.
To my mom,
You are the strongest woman I know and forever my role model. I try my hardest every day to make you proud, and to bring your light, energy, and hard working spirit into everything I do. Apple trees don't grow oranges, so I hope this apple didn't fall too far from the tree.
I miss you and I love you
